An iron-chain bridge with a history
Tawang Tourism attributes the fifteenth-century bridge to Tangton Gyalpo, also known as Lama Chag-Zam Wangpo. It describes the crossing as a passage between Kitpi and Mukto. The chains and construction tradition distinguish this stop from Tawang’s monasteries and high lakes.
Planning a visit from Tawang
The tourism portal places the bridge approximately 25 kilometres from Tawang town. Allow for the actual approach road and time at the river when planning the outing.
Mukto’s handmade-paper tradition is a relevant companion interest. Arrange the artisan visit first, then agree whether the present road sequence allows both stops within your day.
Viewing and crossing are different
Check current viewing and pedestrian-crossing rules locally. A heritage visit does not automatically include permission to cross the bridge. Follow barriers and local instructions, especially around wet approaches and the riverbank; do not enter the water or handle historic chains and fittings.
