Luxury Tawang Tours

Luxury in Tawang is not marble lobbies. It is heating that works, a driver who has done Bumla in snow, and access nobody else has arranged.

Premium Tawang tours: comfortable stays, private Fortuner or Innova Crysta vehicles and guides arranged according to the itinerary.

What luxury means at 3,048 metres

There is no five-star hotel in Tawang and anyone promising one is misleading you. What exists is a small set of properties with reliable room heating, dependable hot water, generator backup and genuinely good kitchens — and the gap between those and the rest is enormous when the night temperature is minus eight.

Our luxury programme books comfortable rooms in those properties, subject to availability, and inspects properties periodically. At Dirang and Shergaon we use boutique lodges with valley-facing rooms and wood fires. In Guwahati we use full-service hotels, because there the category actually exists.

Curated access

Where timings allow, an early entry to the Tawang Monastery prayer assembly can be arranged. A quieter afternoon at Sangetsar, timed around the light rather than the convoy where conditions permit. Dinner with a Monpa family at Thembang inside the old dzong walls, subject to availability. An orchard visit with the grower at Shergaon. These are arrangements built into the pace of the trip, which is why our luxury itinerary runs a day longer than the standard circuit.

Vehicles and comfort on the road

A private Fortuner or Innova Crysta for two to four guests, never shared, with blankets, hot flasks and an experienced hill driver. Our itineraries are designed with sensible overnight halts and gradual altitude gain. Travellers with existing medical conditions should consult their doctor before visiting high-altitude areas. The Bumla leg switches to a locally authorised vehicle from Tawang, as required by the permit rules.

Luxury Tawang Tours: frequently asked questions

What does this Tawang package cover?
Premium Tawang tours: comfortable stays, private Fortuner or Innova Crysta vehicles and guides arranged according to the itinerary. Every detail here reflects how we actually run the route, with experienced hill drivers and suitable vehicles arranged for travellers booked with us.
When is the best time to travel?
March to June and late September to November give the most reliable roads; December to February is the snow season, with a real chance of temporary closures at Sela.
How do you reach Tawang?
Fly or take a train to Guwahati, then drive via Tezpur, Bomdila, Dirang and Sela Pass. The road journey is roughly 520 km and is done over two days in either direction.
What permits are needed?
Indian nationals need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) for Arunachal Pradesh; foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit (PAP). Bumla Pass and other border areas need additional Army clearance arranged locally, and foreign nationals are not permitted to visit Bumla Pass. We assist with permit formalities for travellers booked with us.
How is the trip priced?
Every trip is quoted to your dates, group size and choice of stays rather than sold at a fixed rate. Send us your dates and we will send a personalised quote with inclusions listed line by line.
