History
Founded as an administrative centre in the 1960s, Bomdila became the seat of West Kameng and the home of the Gontse Gaden Rabgyel Ling monastery, consecrated by the Dalai Lama.
Culture
A mix of Monpa, Sherdukpen and Aka communities, with a busy craft centre and orchards on the ridge.

Local travel tips
Good place for a lunch halt and an ATM, but sleep lower at Dirang if you can — the extra 850 m matters.
