History
Apple and kiwi horticulture was introduced through state programmes and has become a pillar of the local economy. The National Research Centre on Yak at Dirang is the only institution of its kind in India.
Culture
Harvest season transforms these valleys — roadside stalls, cider experiments, and family labour across the terraces.
Photography tips
Blossom in March against snow-lined ridges; yaks in the research centre pastures with a long lens in flat light.
Local travel tips
Ask us to arrange an orchard visit with a grower rather than a roadside photo stop. The conversation is the experience.
How to reach
Around Bomdila, Shergaon, Rupa and Dirang.
